How to Find Passionate People

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and everyone’s talking about love and passion. At Coors Healthcare Solutions, we’re talking about those things, too…especially when it comes to finding people who love their jobs and are passionate about what they do.

Hiring people who love their jobs and are passionate about what they do starts from Day 1: in the interview.

Here are five questions to ask to separate the enthusiasts from the pretenders.

What do you do in your free time?

Learn about each candidate’s interests and hobbies. Sometimes we focus so much on what candidates do at work that we neglect to learn what they’re like outside of work. People who are passionate will share their complex hobbies and interests with enthusiasm, and you’ll also be able to learn about the other diverse characteristics they bring to the table.

How do you find your work-life balance?

Life is about balance, and you want individuals that know how to work and play in equal amounts. Why? Individuals who are passionate outside of the office are more likely to be passionate at work as well.

Where do you see yourself in three years?

As an employer, you should know your employees’ goals for professional growth. But this question will also give you some insight into how forward-thinking candidates are, and you want people who are always striving to get smarter, work better, and be happier in their jobs.

Do you volunteer?

Individuals who are passionate philanthropists and who love giving back to others are more likely to bring the same mindset into their professional lives. As important as it is to have employees who are focused on individual growth, you also want people who are passionate about helping the people around them grow.

What makes you happy?

This might not be a question you ask directly, but it is something to listen for. During the interview process, take note of the topics that make each candidate happy and enthusiastic. Bonus points if these topics and skills support the role. Individuals like this will bring the same enthusiasm into their role.
